Chocolate spread

I know, chocolate spread has nothing to do with either household cleaning or personal care. But… I have to share this recipe! I have no other excuse for this post (though it is cheap, simple and wholesome, just like everything else on Spotless). Perhaps you could indulge in eating it after some household cleaning, or while soaking in a luxuriant bath. Whatever floats your boat. But try it you should.

I was determined to create a wholesome homemade chocolate spread after looking at the price (exorbitant) and the ingredients (mostly sugar and palm oil) of the available options on the supermarket shelves. I found a few recipes online but decided I couldn’t really afford to buy hazelnuts or cocoa butter and didn’t want an egg or milk based recipe. Then I remembered a recipe I have somewhere for chocolate brownies with butter beans… Maybe a hummus-like consistency would be right! I combined that with our favourite homemade chocolate recipe (another time), and hey, presto! There it was. Silky smooth and completely delicious, sugar free and packed with goodness. Yum.

So, without further ado, here it is!

Ingredients

  • 1 can of butter beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1/2 cup coconut oil, warmed
  • 1/2 cup of honey, warmed
  • 1/2 cup of cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence

Method

  • Put all ingredients into a food processor or blender and whiz until smooth
  • (Or use a stick blender)
  • Transfer into a wide-mouthed jar
  • Store in the fridge if you can refrain from eating it all at once

The end.

Easy peasy hey!
